About the scholarship: The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship allows Canadian universities and Canada itself to foster and retain research opportunities by rewarding highly qualified doctoral students. This allows for Canada to become more globally recognized for research and higher learning. Each successful recipient will receive a non-renewable scholarship of $50,000 a year for three years.
Eligibility Requirements: Citizen eligibility requires that all applicants must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent Canadian resident or a foreign citizen. Each applicant must be nominated by a Canadian institution that has received a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship quota. A list of eligible universities that can nominate applicants can be found on Vanier.
A CGS Review Process evaluates each nominee on their Research Potential, Leadership, and Academic Achievements. Students in the health, natural sciences and/or engineering, and social science and humanities research are eligible to be nominated. After nominations by an institution, applicants are then evaluated by a research-specific selection committee. Based upon their recommendations up to 166 final recipients are chosen by a Tri-Agency Programs Steering Committee to receive the scholarship.
Application Deadline: Each applicant must be nominated by the Canadian institution of their choice by October 31, 2018.
